Wychwood Cottage is a Federation style house built in the 1890’s and stands in the grounds of St. Scholastica’s College. Since 1992 it has operated as an Independent Learning Centre, offering resource based learning for students in Years 7, 9 and 10 and Society and Culture for Years 11 and 12.
Wychwood Independent Learning Centre offers students the opportunity to undertake study of selected HSIE electives or the Talented Students’ Program in an independent learning environment. Courses in Aboriginal Studies and Elective History, Stages 4 and 5, are available. These courses are tailored each semester to the groups of students and deliver a varied and diverse range of learning experiences.
Wychwood has two rooms of computers connected to the internet which provide each student access to technology, enabling them to develop advanced research and presentation skills. Other rooms in the cottage are used as discussion areas or for focus groups, with larger spaces for creative work. There is a television and audio room which can provide small groups access to visual and audio media.
